Torrey Oaks Pickelball Scramble

On Saturday, December 20th, the newest RV resort in the area, hosted what might be their First Annual Holiday Pickleball Scramble. Doug Battey, owner of the resort, is serious about making Torrey Oaks a “Pickleball Friendly” RV Resort.

The event coordinator was Jean Mulder, USAPA Ambassador from Holland Michigan and a Florida RV Snowbird wintering at Torrey Oaks, where she is introducing pickleball to full time and short term Torrey Oaks residents. In the spirit of the holiday, she planned a fun filled day of pickleball, mix and mingle and good food!

The Holiday Scramble welcomed players from the Tanglewood Pickleball Club in Sebring Florida, the Wesley Chapel Meadow Pointe Pickleball Club, the Kings Point Pickleball League in Sun City Center and the Peace River Picklers from the nearby Thousand Trails/NACO RV Park. Local USAPA Ambassadors from Tampa and Quebec attended the event, as did USAPA Board Member, Wayne Roswell and former RA, Neal Nightingale.

Thirty players drew numbers to determine play rotation. Each game was played with a new partner against opponents in both men’s doubles and woman’s doubles. Scores were recorded for individuals based on wins/losses and game points. Prizes for the top scores included Torey Oaks Pickleball T-Shirts and Holiday Canisters of goodies and chocolate. Everyone received a goodie bag to take home. The Holiday Cryptic Carols were very creative Jean!
